Hanging of the Greens, November 29, 2009

Category: Worship

On Sunday, November 29 we will celebrate the decorating of the church by having a “Hanging of the Greens” service during morning worship.

During this time, we will hear about the reasons we decorate with certain items, light the first Advent candle, and begin our journey to Bethlehem as the star leads us. Each Sunday between then and Christmas we will light an additional candle, culminating with the lighting of the Christ Candle on Christmas Eve.

Don’t miss this great worship experience on November 29!

Advent, a Time of Preparation

Category: Worship

It hardly seems possible, but before we know it, the season of Advent will begin. In fact, the first Sunday of Advent is November 29. On that day, we will decorate the church during morning worship in a special service called The Hanging of the Greens. In order to prepare for that service, you are invited to come, with your family, to the church on November 8 from 2 to 4 to help make Chrismons. Chrismons are Christian symbols that we will use to decorate the Christmas tree in the church. All ages are welcomed to come and make these easy  and interesting ornaments.

Get Your Advent Devotional

As we get closer to the season of Advent, you will want to pick up a copy of the Advent Devotional available in the rear entrance of the church. Each day you can read a scripture and a short devotion as we prepare for the birth of out Savior Christ.

 Sundays in Advent this year:

November 29 - First Sunday of Advent
December 6 - Second Sunday of Advent
December 13 - Third Sunday of Advent
December 20 - Fourth Sunday of Advent

Will You Serve as a Worship Leader?

Category: Worship

Being a worship leader is a great way to serve the Church. If you serve, you will receive a copy of the bulletin in the mail no later than Friday. It will list the scripture lesson for the day so you can be prepared. The worship leader also shares a short call to worship. (Sometimes this is a responsive reading and printed in the bulletin. Other times, you may choose your own Call to worship.) The worship leader also offers a short prayer that leads into the Lord’s Prayer. Pastor Woody is available to give help and suggestions.

If you think you might like to be a worship leader, please e-mail (Phyllis) Christian.Church (at) ffni (dot) com or (Pastor Woody) pastorwoody (at) ffni (dot) com or call the church at 967-4246.

Church in the Park, 9:30 a.m. September 13

Category: Worship

Thanks to all who helped make church in the park a success!

Miriam Robeson and her family provided the music for the day and our high school class led by Nick Hoffman took care of picking up the chicken and making lemonade. It was a great morning , though a bit cool. More than 30 pictures were turned for out “baby contest” and answers were given the following Sunday at the church.
