First Christian Church, Flora, Indiana

On Sunday, May 22, the church will honor all of the high school graduates. Our list is growing: so far we have Samantha, Shelby and Owen. There are more than likely others, so please let the church office know so we can make plans.

Our CWF will honor them with a reception after church. There are several open houses for these graduates too: Owen’s is at the church on the 28th from 2 – 5, Shelby’s is at the church on the 29th from 2 – 5, and Samantha’s is at her home on the 29th from 3 – 6.

We continue to celebrate our Risen Christ beyond Easter Sunday!

We gather to worship, here jokes, laugh, sing, etc. This is a joy-filled and uplifting Sunday.

Because Jesus loves us so much, He gives us good reason to REJOICE, REJOICE, REJOICE!

Flora’s Easter Sunday Sunrise Service, Jesus, No Other King, will be held Easter morning, April 24, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Flora United Methodist Church.

Director Joe Spence encouraged all in Flora and the surrounding area interested in singing in the cantata to participate. “I consider this to be simply a large praise band, leading all in attendance to worship in a special way,” he said. “We have ordered 50 books and would like to have to buy more.”

This program is sponsored by the Flora Ministerial Association.

Easter Sunday is April 24, 2011.

Every year our church participates in a 24 hour prayer vigil during Holy week. A prayer room is set up at the church and individuals come and spend 30 minutes in silent prayer.

This year, the vigil begins on Wednesday, April 20 at 6 p.m. and concludes on Maundy Thursday. Please sign up for a time to pray! A signup sheet is at the church.

Sunday, April 17 – Palm Sunday

Join the procession to celebrate the arrival of Jesus Christ! Youth are needed to wave palms. Gather in the fellowship hall at 9:20 a.m.

Wednesday, April 20 – Prayer Vigil

You are invited to pray for half an hour during this 24 hour event. Please sign up at church.

Thursday, April 21 – Maundy Thursday

You are invited to join with us at 7 p.m. as we get acquainted with the disciples that Jesus called to the Upper Room. This service will include communion and prayer.

Friday, April 22 – Good Friday

The community will gather at noon for a service at the First Brethren Church.

Then, the community will gather at First Christian Church at 7:30 p.m. for a Tenebrae Service (gradual extinguishing of the lights).

Sunday, April 24 – Easter Morning

The Community Choir Cantata – Jesus, No Other King will be held at 6:30 a.m. at Flora United Methodist Church. Breakfast will be served afterward.

We worship at First Christian Church at 9:30 a.m. We will celebrate the Risen Christ with song and word. We will construct a Living Cross in the sanctuary, and hold a Community Lunch after Sunday School.

Our sanctuary is graced with a large wooden cross and it is a focal point during Lent as it reflects more than 100 commitments our church members have made during Lent. But on Easter Sunday, it will become a LIVING CROSS. Here is how it will work. Since Easter is so late this year, out yards should be filled with plenty of spring flowers and blooming shrubs. Before you come to church on Easter Sunday, cut several flowers or a branch from a blooming bush and bring it with you to worship. As you enter the sanctuary, members of the worship committee will assist you in placing your blooms on the cross, transforming it into a living cross. This should be a vibrant way to celebratethe ressurection of out Lord and Savior.

If there are any young people interested in joining the church this Easter, please let Pastor Woody know. He is planning a Pastor’s Class, beginning on April 10, for all who are interested. The class will meet during the Sunday School time.
