Mission Possibilities

Category: Outreach

Can you help? Not with physical labor, but with ideas. There is a group in the church that wants to work on a mission idea this summer. They need to find a house in town that needs attention: inside or out. They are ready to jump on board and do what needs to be done. Do you know someone who could use this group’s help? Please let Pastor Woody know.

In January, Rick Spleth, our Regional Minister, shared with our congregation in morning worship and combined Sunday School the global ministry partnership of the Christian Church in Indiana and the Mbandaka District of the Community of Disciples of Christ in the Congo. Last summer a delegation of disciples from Indiana traveled to the Congo to establish this partnership. This summer Rev. Ilumbe and Rosette from the Mbandaka District will be spending the month of July in Indiana visiting congregations and sharing the Good News of our partnership.

Rev. Ilumbe and Rosette will be in Flora on Thursday, July 23, 2009. They will be hosted by members of Flora Christian Church and seeing firsthand the agricultural industry of Carroll County.

That evening our Congo mission partners will be introduced and welcomed at Vacation Bible School. This year’s United Vacation Bible School has adopted the work of the church in the Mbandaka District of the Congo as their offering project. The children’s offerings will be used to purchase motors and canoes for transportation of pastorsin the Congo. You areinvited and encouraged to attend the VBS Opening Assembly on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. to meed Rev. Ilumbe.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) 2009 July 19 - 23

Category: Outreach, Special Classes

This year’s Vacation Bible School really rocked! Its theme “SonRock Kids Camp” led children through the relationship of Jesus and what God has done for us as we are: Accepted by Jesus, Saved by Jesus, and Forgiven by Jesus that leads us to Live for Jesus. Sixty-one children were enrolled, with fifty adults and youth providing leadership and assistance. It takes numerous people, all with specific duties, to pull off an event of this size. We thank Teresa McGill who was director of the United VBS. Her team of adults and youth from FFCC included: Laura Myers, Rhonda Hicks, Miriam Robeson, Ben Pickens, Caitlin Pickens, Samantha Pickens, Cassandra Proffitt, Brian McGill, Michael Rosinski, Camille Rosinski, Carissa Hicks, Teri Larimore, Jessica Redmon, Autumn Filbrun, Nancy Hicks, Doug Winger, Vicki Winger and Dawn Clawson. The partner churches of United VBS are Cutler Presbyterian Church, Flora Presbyterian Church, and Flora First Christian Church.
